Have a digital project, idea, story, or insight to share but require a format that’s short and sweet? Rapid-fire “Ignite” Presentations at the Digital Arts Services Symposium from March 18-20, 2019 are the platform for you.
What is the format?
Presentations should be a maximum of 5 minutes, featuring a maximum of 20 slides that advance automatically after 15 seconds each. A short Q&A will follow once all presentations are complete.
What types of topics are eligible?
Priorities will be given to proposals that fall under one or more of the daily Symposium themes: Inspirational Stories, Critical Reflections, and Practical Transformation.
Ignite Presentations are the ideal way to share early-phase project ideas or thoughtful insights that can be delivered with a punch. This can include the heart-warming, thought-provoking, funny-but-true, and everything in between. Proposals are invited to address one or more of the “human, socio-cultural, financial, technological” dimensions underlying digital initiatives. Proposals are also encouraged to focus on one of the daily Symposium themes, featuring either inspiring, critical, or practical insights.
Below are some suggested topics. Please do not feel limited by them!
Digital manifestos
- Digital transformation myths and realities
- Artists as digital disruptors in a gig economy
- Pathways to collaborative digital transformation in arts services
- Technology can be accessible to all
Kvetching digital gaps and unanswered questions

Digital research
- Summaries of critical case studies, white papers, or other research relevant to digital transformation of arts services, including:
- Managing intellectual property in open data platforms
- Usage examples of new technologies from virtual reality, augmented reality, and artificial intelligence to big data analytics, cryptocurrencies, machine learning, deep learning, algorithms

Selection Process & Deadline
Proposals will be selected based on the topic and connection to each of the daily themes to present a coherent and varied Ignite session on each day of the Symposium. All submitted proposals will have the opportunity to be published on the Symposium website at DigitalASO.ca. Proposals are due December 14, 2018. Confirmation of participation will be announced by January 7, 2019. Proposals are welcome from anywhere in the world.
Benefits
All selected participants will receive complimentary registration to one day of the Symposium on March 18, 19 or 20, 2019, including hospitality (value of up to $170). Participants selected from outside of Toronto may also be offered a travel subsidy, depending on availability of funding and expressions of need. If financial support is required to participate, please let us know when you submit a proposal.
